 Rules Of The Games

The following are rules for the players and games on this site.  Our rules are based upon our goal to provide a fair and fun game, and we reserve the right to change these rules at anytime as we see fit.

     Players

  1. A "Player" is defined as any person or persons who register to set up an account on this site, regardless of whether or not that person(s) have entered games or whether they have closed their account or have been suspended.

  2. All Players are allowed to set up one (1) user account for free, and we only allow one (1) user account and name per player and per e-mail address.  If you lose or forget your account information, please use the "Forgot User ID / Password" link to recover it.  Any Player who is determined to have multiple accounts shall have their accounts suspended and shall become ineligible for prizes.

  3. All Players are required to follow all rules and to behave in a respectful manner towards this site and the other Players.  Any Player who breaks the rules or behaves disrespectfully towards others is subject to temporary or permanent suspension at the sole discretion of Guess Closing Price.

     Games & Game Days

  4. A "game" is defined as a contest of guesses that apply to one stock and one day.  All Players are allowed to enter up to ten (10) games per day.  Each Player may have one (1) free user account, and we only allow one (1) user account and name per e-mail address.

  5. A "Game Day" is defined as a period of time that begins when the American stock markets closes on one day, and continues until the next time the American stock markets close, inclusive of weekends, holidays, and early closing days.

  6. All game entries must be made at least three (3) or more hours before the market closes on any Game Day.  After an entry has been made, Players are allowed to modify it at any time up until three hours before the market closes for that Game Day.

     Stocks

  7. The games on this site are presently based on and limited to stocks that are traded on the New York Stock Exchange ("NYSE"), the American Stock Exchange ("AMEX"), and the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System ("NASDAQ").  No other stocks or exchanges are available at this time.

  8. In order to be eligible for games, a stock must have a reasonable amount of daily volume and movements (a.k.a "beta" or "volitility"), and it must also be a stock that appeals to an adequate number of Players.  The goal of Guess Closing Price is to have a minimum of one hundred (100) players in each game.  Guess Closing Price reserves the right and sole discretion to determine whether or not any particular stock should be included or excluded from the games.

  9. Anyone can suggest to add a stock to the games.  Use the The Games => Suggest New Stock link to suggest a new stock for the games.  Your suggestion is automatically added to the "Suggestion Box" and displayed to other players who click on that same link.

  10. You and the other players are allowed to vote on new stocks to be added to the games.  If you suggest or vote for a stock, your Player name is automatically displayed with that stock for other players to see.  When 10 Players have voted for a stock, it is considered to have enough support for the games and it is automatically added to the games at that time.

     Points & Scoring

  11. The "Points" are defined as a number that is awarded to top players at end of each Game.  The Player who guesses closest to the officially listed closing price for each day receives the most points.  When ties occur, the advantage and higher number of points are given to the Player who entered their guess earliest.

  12. Players can receive up to one hundred (100) Points per game.  If there are at least one hundred (100) players in a game, the top Player receives one hundred (100) Points and each successive Player receives one less Point.  If there are less than one hundred (100) Players in a game, the number of points that are awarded to top players is based upon a calculation that adds bonus points to stocks in which the top Players did not play, and each successive player receives one less point.  The potential number of points per game can be viewed at Points Calculator page.

  13. The "Score" is defined as the accumilation of points from the most recent twenty (20) Game Days that the player has entered from among the last thirty (30) games that were available to be played.  During the first twenty (20) Game Days, a Player's Score will typically go up each day, as new points are added each day.  After twenty Game Days, the Player's Score will typically go up and down each day, as new points are added and older points are dropped.

  14. If you miss a Game Day, you do not necessarily gain nor lose points for that day and your score is always based upon the twenty (20) most recent games that you entered from among the last forty (40) games that were available to be played.  Therefore, you can miss up to half of the games without it affecting your score.  However, if you have missed half of the games and the earliest from amoung the most recent forty (40) games is included in your score, then you will start losing points by missing games.

  15. Scores are based on individual stocks and do not combine.  Therefore, a Player who is playing in ten (10) games will have ten (10) unique scores.

Prizes - Top Scores & Random Drawings

  16. Guess Closing Price offers Prizes that are available for all Players.  NOTE: This site is supported by revenues that we receive when our players purchase products from Amazon.com after ariving there from our site.  That revenue is then distributed as prizes to the players and there is absolutely no cost to register and play in the Games.

  17. Top Score Prizes - Top score prizes are based upon the highest scores at the end of the last Game Day of each month.  In the case of ties, the player who entered their last guess earliest is used as the tie-breaker.  The First Place prize is a choice of $100 gift cards from either Amazon.com or Walmart.  The Second Place prize is a choice of $50 gift cards from either Amazon.com or Walmart.  And the Third Place prize is a choice of $25 gift cards from either Amazon.com or Walmart.  NOTE: We encourage players to choose the gift cards from Amazon.com and then initiate purchases from our site as it helps enable and pay for the prizes.

  18. Random Drawings - Beginning at midnight central time on the first day of each month, Guess Closing Price places the User Name of a Random Drawing player in the top right hand corner of "My Home Page" and other pages of the Guess Closing Price website, and a text box is placed directly underneath that name.  To win a Random Drawing prize, the player whose name appears must enter their e-mail address in the text box below it and press the <ENTER> key, and that e-mail address must match the e-mail address that was used during registration.  New Player names will continue to appear every twelve (12) hours, at midnight and at noon, until ten (10) players have won the Random Drawings, and each of those players will receive a their choice of $25 gift cards from either Amazon.com or Walmart.

  19. The Random Drawing is based upon posts to the message board and game entries that were made during the most recent thirty Game Days and each player gets one entry into the Random Drawing for every game that they enter during those days. Each player can get up to ten (20) entries into the Random Drawing on any day by entering up to 10 messages on the message board and guesses for 10 stocks on that day and a Player can also have entries in as many as all thirty (30) of the most recent Game Days. Therefore, it is possible for a player to have as many as 600 entries into the Random Drawing (20 per day x 30 days). Entries into the Random Drawing are automatic when a Player posts a message on the message board or a guess for a stock, and other than entering those posts and guesses, there are no special needs and nothing else to do for entries into the Random Drawing.  So the more you play in the Games, the more chances you have to win $$$ even if your guesses are seldom close!

     Notices

  20. Guess Closing Price can send out e-mail notices to Players who have enabled notices.  There are normally two events that we will send notices for.  One of those events is an upgrade or change to the site, such as the addition of new prizes or changes to the rules.  The other event would be to notify you when another Player sends you a message.

  21. Players are given the choice to enable or disable notices when they register on the site.  You can change those settings and enable or disable various types of notices at anytime from the Modify Notices page.

  22. Guess Closing Price does not distribute e-mail addresses nor will we spam people who enable notices.  We only use notices as a method to inform our Players when important events occur.

  24.
